Where the Mississsippi and Ohio Rivers Meet

The beautiful and artistic Hewer is located in Halliday Park at Washington and Poplar St. in Cairo Illinois. This piece was sculpted by George Grey Barnard and exhibited at the St. Louis World’s Fair. This original bronze statue was declared by Laredo Taft to be one of the finest nudes in America. The Hewer was presented to the City of Cairo in 1906 by Mrs. W. P. Halliday and Children, in memory of Captain W. P. Halliday.
